How To Get Alia’s Glowing, Near Natural Look: Makeup Expert Reveals

Soft skin with a healthy glow has hardly ever been out of fashion. But after months of matte faces, the makeup experts are all rooting for the near natural skin with a glow that looks as if ‘lit from within’.

The catwalks of Paris, Milan and New York saw models sashaying down in perfect skin and neutral lips and eyes. Hollywood celebrity makeup artist Ash Kholm, who has done the faces of Kim Kardashian, Camilla Cabelo and Ariana Grande, was quoted saying that makeup artists have started to go for soft skin with minimal foundation. Kholm claims to be a fan of barely-there makeup trend.

According to Ojas Rajani, celebrity makeup artist in the country, minimal makeup with dewy skin can never grow old. For this look she recommends lightweight, serum-based skin products to plump up the skin and even out the complexion. Ojas recommends that you stick to cream or liquid formulas to get the look. She adds, “To get that dewy, lit-from-within look, your best option is to use serum-based skin care products that minimise spots and fine lines. You can skip the foundation all together and go for a tinted moisturizer along with concealer. Apply concealer just where you need it.” One trick Ojas shares for getting a seamless finish is to mix your regular foundation with little moisturizer. It will give you a sheer effect. Finish the look with a dash of cream blush and highlighter and nude pink lipstick.

Here’s the step by step to cop Alia’s look:

Skin prep

Cleanse and moisturize your skin. Try Nature’s Co Foressence Raspberry Face Wash to clear away dirt and add freshness to skin. Moisturize with a serum and a light moisturizer. We like Ethiko Brightening Serum with Rosehip to smooth out the skin and Paul Penders Aqualuna Illuminating Cream to minimize spots and blemishes and give skin an even tone.

Set the base

The trick here is to keep your foundation very, very light and airy. Your skin should be able to breath and it’s fine if some of the imperfections show through. The key here is to get the ‘near-natural’ finish. Try Illana Soft Blur Cream Concealer + Foundation, a creamy product that does the dual job of concealing and smoothening your complexion. It has a velvety texture and a lovely sheer coverage. If foundation is too much for you, then a BB cream is not a bad idea. It moisturizes the skin, evens out complexion and is lightweight. Perfect for that sheer, clean look. We like Soul Tree BB Cream or Thank You Farmer Be Luminous CC Cream (it has natural skin illuminators, so you can do away with too much highlighter).

Create the glow

The best way to create the glow is to use multiple highlighters and cream blush and apply on strategic points of your face. To get that perfect dewy, glowy finish, first apply a cream blush, in a pink that matches you complexion, on the apple of your cheeks. Try Ruby’s Organics Crème Blush or Daughter Earth Vitamin E Lip & Cheek Tint. They give you the sheerest finish with a natural look. Then apply highlighter on the high points of your face like cheekbones, browbones, bridge of the nose, temple and forehead. We recommend Tinge Multishade Stick or asa Luminizing Powder. For the seamless glowing effect blend very well.

Final touch

You can use the lip and cheek tint to complete the makeup. Just dab on lips for a soft, creamy pout that is important to finish the look. You can use a creamy lipstick and apply with your finger. Try Echt Beauti Pot Lipstick in Gentle Pink for that sheer, stained look. Keeping with the theme, add a shimmery shadow in cream texture onto your eye lids. Neutral shades with a hint of gold or copper works should be the colour of your choice like Ruby’s Organics Quick Set Liquid Eyeshadow in Luna. Finish off with a sweep or two of mascara on your lashes.
